From 1939 on, the house looks as though it is made of two linked volumes. Does anyone know if it started life as two separate buildings, or if a smaller house was enlarged? Architecturally, it is very odd. One half is a symmetrical 'H' plan, while the other is a smaller 'L' plan with round bay window.
"the creative day" how long was each day?
defend.
maybe this was posted before but i found this site.. search the above site.
I have attempted to compile all relevant and recent quotes regarding the 7000 creative days here:
http://www.jwbeliefs.com/jehovahs-witnesses-believe-creative-days/
To the OP: Where did you source that quote from the 2005 class? I'd love to get my hands on an official talk outline or something...
any body know?
@ BluesBrother
So now "Science" is to be allowed to determine the length of a Creative Day...Curious and curiouser ....
"Creative days" are not usually the subject of scientific research. I would guess that the only "scientists" working to assign them a length are ones that already agree with Jehovah's Witnesses and the Genesis account of creation.
Jehovah's Witnesses have always stated that their interpretation of Genesis is entirely consistent with "true science" while teaching that each creative "day" was only "thousands" of years long.
Besides, we know JWs reject most of natural history from their teachings on other subjects, like the order of creation, flood, water canopy, mammoths, dinosaurs, fossils, radiometric dating, and so on...
any body know?
I collected all the relevant WT quotes I could find here:
a jw came to my door a while back and used wooly mammoths as evidence for noah's flood.
he was a bit older, so i thought this must be some oddball out-of-date teaching of jehovah's witnesses.
i could remember something in the insight book about frozen mammoths, but not much else.

A JW came to my door a while back and used wooly mammoths as evidence for Noah's flood. He was a bit older, so I thought this must be some oddball out-of-date teaching of Jehovah's Witnesses. I could remember something in the Insight book about frozen mammoths, but not much else. WELL, was I ever wrong. JWs have published more on wooly mammoths than (I think) any other extinct animal. They've really hung themselves on this one.
So, yesterday, I set about collecting every single quote I could find on the WT CDROM and made a page on my website devoted entirely to wooly mammoths:
WOOLY MAMMOTHS - What do Jehovah's Witnesses Believe?
Have fun! ... and let me know if Ive missed anything...
witnesses hate college education, and why would you need one when you have our "spiritual food" the watchtower answering science questions.. watchtower 1973 july 15 p.7 questions from readers.. "when did dinosaurs go extinct?

To be clear, you are right, they do not claim to know exactly how long the creative days were (as they once did). Since the 1990s they have used words like "indefinite" and "unknown" to describe them. However, at precisely the same time, in other articles, they use the more limiting expression "thousands" of years.
"Indefinite" or "unknown" does not contradict "thousands" of years. Most importantly it does not contradict the notion of approximately 7000 years, as indicated last in 1998.
JWs should be called to account for their real beliefs - even the ones they are trying to hide behind vague language.

I collected all the Watchtower quotes I could find on creative days here:
CREATIVE DAYS - What do Jehovah's Witnesses believe?
They have stated the "thousands" of years idea as late as 2014. In 1998 they told us exactly what it means: 7000-ish years, inferred from the length of creative day seven.
Scientists are finding very interesting residue within dinosaur fossils. I could only refer you to the scientific literature for more information. Being 70million or more years old, however, rules out the ability to carbon date. Remember, carbon dating is based on the ratio of carbon12 and carbon14, but after that much time, there is no detectable carbon14 left.

I think there's a case to be made that they still condone this kind of thinking.
